Annual General Meeting - Saturday March 25, 2017 9:15 - 15:30 Featured

2017 marks the 30th anniversary for our Society. Our first event of the year will be the Annual General Meeting on March 25 from 9:15 to 15:30. (RSVP Required)

As usual this is not a typical business meeting but focuses more on education and enjoying a weekend in the off season dedicated to the celebration of mushrooms. In that regard, we are pleased to have Peter McCoy as our guest speaker. He has grown oyster mushrooms in old coffee grounds, and trained fungi to digest used cigarette filters. A self-taught radical mycologist as well as a long time artist and community activist, Peter now gives mycological-science workshops and lectures all over the country (45 locations in USA last year), persuading anyone who will listen to "just give mushrooms a chance."  He says "Fungus in general is totally absent from our awareness; that's why it's easy to make fun of it or be afraid of it.  But fungi directly influence all life cycles of nature integral to the environment…when you do understand it, it's fascinating and bizarre and so important.". He will be offering an enlightening, educational and entertaining lecture on Fungi. You won’t want to miss it!
