The President’s Dinner will be held in Ernest’s Dining Room, one of Edmonton’s best fine dining venues. Five courses featuring fungi will be offered. For mycophagists this is an occasion not to be missed! We do enjoy our edible fungi.
"Peter McCoy takes you through the Marvelous Magnificent world of Mushrooms."
Our guest speaker will be Peter McCoy. He is a highly respected self-taught mycologist with 16 years of accumulated study and experience.
He has grown oyster mushrooms in old coffee grounds, and trained fungi to digest used cigarette filters. A self-taught radical mycologist as well as a long time artist and community activist, Peter now gives mycological-science workshops and lectures all over the country (45 locations in USA last year), persuading anyone who will listen to "just give mushrooms a chance." He says. "Fungus in general is totally absent from our awareness; that's why it's easy to make fun of it or be afraid of it. But fungi directly influence all life cycles of nature integral to the environment…when you do understand it, it's fascinating and bizarre and so important."
He is a regular guest on the Permaculture Voices Podcast. Apart from his work with fungi, he is also a community organizer, artist, musician, lecturer, and teacher.
